Verify Software Versions

Thank you for the invitation to add a discussion to the new facilitators group. We can all learn vicariously from the collective experience.

I think it's important to verify the versions of software that the participants will be using. I had created handouts for iMovie 09, when in fact the organization had iMovie HD 06. Luckily, I had used iMovie 06 in the past (still think it's the best iMovie version) and could walk them through it. But we know that teachers have an insatiable desire for handouts, especially for those procedural learners. I think not having handouts for their version of iMovie caused undue stress, for both the participants and me. My co-facilitators were awesome in helping those procedural learners. I can't thank them enough.

Permalink Reply by Sherri Pankhurst on August 14, 2009 at 9:07am: We had an issue in Hollis. Some participants wanted to work on their Audacity projects at home. They downloaded the newer version at home, saved their projects, and they would not open in the older version of Audacity. The newer version even has a different export option. Exporting as a .wav is there, but you have to take a step to get there. Of course, the teachers wanted to declare mutiny after two power outages above that, but they were troopers.
